	South Reading Vixens Girls Football in South Reading
	Woodley Saints Under 10's Girls Tournament Semi Finalists at Sonning 20th June 2004 It was our first tournament for a month, and the girls were looking to improve on last time's disappointing performance at Whiteknights. First up were the smaller girls of Whitegrove Emeralds who battled bravely, but the Vixens used their strength and experience to great effect. The game was played mostly in the Whitegrove half, and goals from Jaye, Georgia(2) and new girl Ellie gave us the best possible start. The next match was the total opposite. Polegate Grasshoppers gave an outstanding display of girls football and there was only one team in it as they ran out 3-0 winners. This was followed by a 1-0 defeat against near neighbours Whiteknights, with the Vixens confidence still dented from the previous game. Things then started to turn in our favour. We had the better of Woking Cougars Reds, and Georgia's goal gave us a deserved 1-0 victory. Some excellent passing from Felisha and goals from Jaye, Georgia and Ellie then secured a convincing 3-0 win in our final group game against Winnersh Rangers Kestrels. A comfortable third place in the league put us into the quarter finals of the knockout. Opponents Winnersh Rangers Falcons had beaten us in the semi final of the Bracknell tournament a few weeks ago, and the Vixens were aiming to even the score. The Falcons secured an early lead, but a late strike from Jaye from a tight angle gave us our first experience of the dreaded penalty shootout. Well struck shots from Georgia and Jaye combined with two great saves from Georgia gave us a nailbiting 2-1 victory. The reward for these heroics was a semi final tie against ... Polegate Grasshoppers. It was a repeat of our earlier game, but solid defending from Ashleigh, Jade, Emma and Jessica together with outstanding goalkeeping from Georgia restricted our opponents to just two goals this time. Once again we were one step away from those elusive trophies. However, we can take heart from the fact that Polegate won the final 3-0 and we had been put out by a team that was always going to win this tournament.
