First Outing for Under 10's

Benson Girls U10’s 0 – 2 South Reading Vixens U10’s
25th April 2004

Laura - excellent Having seen the Under 8's come out on top, it was time for the Under 10's to have their turn. This time it was the Vixens who were playing together as a team for the first time. Debutant Emma started the match up front for the visitors, and this paid dividends just a few seconds into the game when she scored from the very first attack. However, Vixens keeper Lauren was soon called into action and had to be at her best to deny the frequent Benson assaults on her goal to preserve her team’s slender lead.

The Vixens started the second half in determined fashion, and an early goalmouth scramble ended with Georgia forcing the ball over the line from close range to double the visitors lead. They then had the chance to go further ahead from a penalty after an unfortunate handball by a Benson defender. Emma struck her shot hard and low, but the Benson keeper got down quickly and made an excellent save. The visitors then started to tire as Benson pressed forward, and the hosts were only denied by a last ditch tackle from Georgia. The pressure continued, and the home team were unlucky not to pull a goal back when a well struck shot hit the post and rebounded into play.

The Vixens player of the match was Laura, who took over the goalkeeping duties from her twin sister at half time and made a string of excellent saves to keep a clean sheet.

The Vixens would like to thank Liz and her army of helpers for all their hard work in staging two great games. The girls thoroughly enjoyed it.
