7th January 2006
With Jemma going in goal for the first time, that left Keisha and Maya to defend and Karla and Georgia to attack. Within seconds of the kick off Maidenhead hit the back of the net, bringing banter from their confident players. But this only served to make the Vixens step up their game, as they found the long ball to be the most effective tactic under the circumstances. This kept Maidenhead at bay for 10 minutes, until they kept a player in front of goal who scored two before half time. But the Vixens still gave it their all with Karla and Georgia coming close, only to be denied by Maidenhead’s keeper. At half time the Vixens were 3-0 down, but all had earned a well deserved drink. After a Vitamin C fix the girls were raring to go, they battled and ran their hearts out and their hard work finally paid off when Karla scored her second of the season. The team were on a roll as every Vixen went hunting for goals, with Keisha storming the field from one end to the other hitting the post twice and Maya, Georgia and Karla all forcing saves from Maidenhead’s keeper. The final score was 3-1 to Maidenhead, but could have easily been 5-3 to the Vixens and this was 5 v 7 / 5 v 6 all game. The Vixens won the second half by miles and were told so by Maidenhead’s manager, Jemma was outstanding for her first stint in goal (second goalie in the making!) The only thing is now we’ve seen the team play so well, we will expect that performance every week! Well done girls, you did us all proud. Squad: Jemma, Keisha, Maya, Karla, Georgia.
