Vixens Talk of the Town

South Reading Vixens 2 - 1 Thatcham Town
10th September 2005

Maya - terror The Vixens got off to a flying start, taking the game to Thatcham straight from the kick off. Georgia, Jemma and Karla all had shots on target but were denied by the excellent Town keeper, before Maya burst through to open the scoring. The girls dominated the game throughout the first half, leaving keeper Keana with the new experience of having nothing to do.

Thatcham came out for the second half with renewed energy, and with the Vixens slowing down defenders Jordina and Keisha suddenly found themselves very busy. Eventually the visitors levelled it from a corner, catching Keana off guard. With Jemma now nursing a blister, Katie joined the match as she gained her first experience of league football. She found the going tough to begin with, but it wasn’t long before the super-sub made her mark. A great cross from Georgia left her one-on-one with the keeper, she turned, and finished in style.

With more outstanding defending from Keisha and Jordina the Vixens managed to keep possession, and Georgia, Maya, Katie, Karla and Jemma all had further attempts on goal. Once again they were all denied by Thatcham’s keeper, but with no further goals they had done enough to secure the three points.

Everyone played well but it was Maya who earned the Vixens player of the match award, having terrorised the Thatcham midfield throughout the game.
