South Reading Vixens

Girls Football in South Reading

Westwood Diamonds 1 - 2 South Reading Vixens
14th January 2006

Georgia - great defending In total contrast to last week the Vixens had almost a full squad, with just Jordina on holiday and Keana not quite recovered from her operation. But after the "Famous Five’s" fantastic performance in their last outing against Maidenhead, the coaches made several changes to positions to see if the improvement could continue. Georgia moved back to defence, Keisha into midfield, and Jemma took up the goalkeeping duties. The girls had lots of supporters backing them, and wanted to put on a good show.

The Vixens had much of the early possession with Georgia and Katie outstanding in defence, leaving Jemma with not much to do. But with both sets of midfielders putting in battling performances the score remained 0-0 at half time.

A reshuffle at the break saw Katie move into goal, Squeak into defence and Sydney coming on to run the wing. The changes seemed to do the trick, as the Vixens opened the scoring. Maya’s pass put Laura through on goal, and she fired past the stranded keeper into the bottom right hand corner of the net. But the Vixens lead was short lived as Westwood were awarded a free kick on the edge of the area. A well hit strike from a tight angle found the target to level the score. With just minutes remaining another reshuffle then saw Jemma return to goal and Karla rejoin the game. A final effort saw the Vixens winning every challenge and with just two minutes remaining a great long ball from Karla found Maya, who made no mistake as she powered the ball home to secure all three points for the Vixens.

Squad: Jemma, Katie, Georgia, Squeak, Sydney, Maya, Karla, Laura, Keisha.

The Vixens player of the match was Georgia, for her solid defending
