Girls Football in South Reading

South Reading Vixens 0 - 2 Thatcham Town A
19th November 2005

Maya - good work It was an icy morning, but the girls were undeterred and ready to face the undefeated Thatcham Town A. They knew they had a battle on their hands, against a team that had conceded only once this season – although that goal did come from the Vixens in their previous meeting.

The first 10 minutes was fought out in midfield, with Jordina and Squeak helping out when needed. Gradually Thatcham started to gain the upper hand and the Vixens had to defend valiantly, but finally Thatcham’s persistence paid off when the ball sneaked into the corner of the net as keeper Keana slipped in the difficult conditions. The Vixens kept their heads up though and went in search of the equaliser, but could not find a way through as the half time whistle blew.

As the second half started the girls were determined to get a goal back, with Laura, Georgia and Karla all breaking through Thatcham’s defence only for their attempts to be saved by Town’s keeper. As the half progressed the Vixens again found themselves defending for much of the time, and defenders Jordina, Squeak and Katie all put in good performances to keep the visitors at bay. But Town were awarded a corner a few minutes from time, and managed to score from the rebound. So it ended 2-0 to Thatcham but it was an excellent performance from the Vixens, their best in weeks.

Player of the match was Maya, for her good work in midfield and defending when needed.

Squad: Keana, Katie, Squeak, Jordina, Maya, Georgia, Karla and Laura.
