Girls Football in South Reading

Injuries Take Their Toll

Maidenhead 3 - 0 South Reading Vixens
22nd October 2005

Squeak - welcome back! The Vixens started off well with Laura W making a welcome return to the side, but within minutes Keisha was injured after taking a knock to her left ankle. Sadly this meant that she could take no further part in the game, and the Vixens were reduced to the minimum seven players. Some reorganisation was also necessary, as Jordina dropped back from midfield to defend alongside Squeak. Nevertheless the girls were performing well, holding their positions and playing some great passing football. Sadly the Vixens then suffered a further mishap. Keana ran out and made a brilliant save only for the ball to hit her in the stomach at force, which left her winded. After a few tears Jordina took the gloves and had a stint in goal, so that Keana could catch her breath. With this further disruption to the formation Maidenhead started to creep through at times, but Jordina saved the lot. Keana and Squeak continued to battle away in defence, and it was still 0-0 at half time.

Keana returned in goal in the second half, but it wasn’t long before we had yet another injury as Georgia was taken down by a defender and hurt her ankle. With everyone now nursing war wounds it was no surprise when Maidenhead fired home to score their first goal, and from then they came thick and fast with the final result being 3-0.

The girls played some excellent football at times but just couldn’t find the net today. But well done to everyone, we’re getting better every week. A special mention this time around goes to Keana for some brave and brilliant saves. It was also great to welcome Squeak back to the side after being out with a long illness. She won player of the match for her brilliant defending - maybe that’s what we’ve been missing!

Squad; Keana, Jordina, Keisha, Laura W, Georgia, Karla, Jemma, Laura H.

No points today, but at least June and Sam were kept busy running on with the first aid bag!
