Vixens Find Their RangeSouth Reading Vixens 2 - 1 Winnersh Rangers Sapphires24th September 2005 It was trial and error today with some players playing in different positions. Jordina moved up to midfield from defence, with Katie moving in the opposite direction. New signing Sydney was playing her first league game, with the coaching team unsure of her best position. The game started well for the Vixens, with a constant battle between the teams to keep possession. Maya was denied by a brilliant save from the Winnersh keeper, but with the clock running down to the break it was the Sapphires who took the lead. Vixens keeper Keana came out to clear but was beaten back to the goal by the rebound, which left the girls 1-0 down at half time. The Vixens really came alive in the second half, with some great passing in midfield. It paid off when Maya fed the ball through to Georgia, who took it all the way to equalise. Keana made some brilliant saves to keep the score level, then Maya crossed a great ball to Sydney who forced an excellent stop from the Sapphires keeper. The deadlock was finally broken when Georgia latched on to a short goal kick, and she netted her second goal of the game to put the Vixens in front. Katie played brilliantly in defence as Winnersh pressed forward in search of the equaliser, but all the Vixens battled hard to retain the lead. There was great relief to hear the whistle signal the end of an extremely close game. There were particularly good performances from Maya, Keana, Georgia and debut girl Sydney, but player of the match went to Katie for outstanding defending, saving the Vixens on many occasions. Squad: Keana, Katie, Keisha, Jemma, Karla, Sydney, Jordina, Maya, Georgia
