Vixens Slide In To Next RoundLiss Athletic Chicks 2 - 8 South Reading Vixens6th November 2005
The girls made a great start, taking the lead as Charmaine got on the end of Jaye’s first minute cross. The Vixens then proceeded to dominate the game with Ashleigh showing great confidence in goal and playing some excellent balls upfield. Felisha and Karis were outstanding in defence, with Felisha working particularly hard to contain the Chicks dangerous right-sided player. At the other end Charmaine, Jaye, Karis and Kelsey all went close, without being able to find the final touch. It took the introduction of sub Chloe to get things moving, as she nudged the ball home from close range a couple of minutes after coming on. But the visitors were not going to have it all their own way, and the Chicks made a good break as the over-confident Vixens pushed too far forward. With the defence overrun there was nothing Ashleigh could do as Liss scored to put themselves back in the match. However it wasn’t long before Chloe hit her second goal of the game as she poked Kelsey’s cross home from close range, then Kelsey herself added a fourth for the Vixens shortly before half time with a fierce shot from the left. With the wind behind them, the girls swarmed forward from the restart and Kelsey hit the Vixens fifth after some neat footwork deceived the Chicks defence. Liss hit back with a well-worked counter attack, forcing a good block from Ashleigh and then scoring with a first time strike from the rebound. But South Reading reasserted their authority as Chloe wrapped up her hat trick with a well struck shot from the right, before Jaye and Charmaine added to the Vixens tally to wrap up a comfortable victory. The final whistle was the cue for players on both sides to indulge in a spot of mud-sliding (sorry groundsman!), although sadly the smartly dressed Zoe was denied permission to join in from the sideline. Liss have to be the most welcoming team we have ever played against, and the massive pot of steaming hot tea was much appreciated. They kept battling despite the scoreline going against them, and we wish them well for the rest of the season as they challenge for their league title. Squad: Ashleigh, Karis, Felisha, Charmaine, Jessica, Kelsey, Jaye, Chloe
The Vixens player of the match was Chloe, who hit her first hat trick of the season.
Whose car are you going home in then?
