Girls Football in South Reading

Hartley Wintney Buzzards 3 - 7 South Reading Vixens
8th January 2006

Karis - excellent The Vixens got 2006 off to a flying start with two goals in the first two minutes. Some good passing from debut girl Mikala and Jaye set up Kelsey to open the scoring, with just seconds on the clock. This was followed by Felisha’s well hit strike from the edge of the area and it looked as though the girls were firmly in the driving seat. But the Buzzards began to play their way back into the game, looking particularly dangerous as they broke forward swiftly on a number of occasions towards the Vixens goal. Midway through the half they eventually pulled one back from close range, after a good cross found the Vixens defence outnumbered and a Buzzards attacker unmarked in front of goal.

The Vixens battled their way back into it, winning a number of corners. Karis played some great balls into the danger area, and from one of these kicks the girls re-established their two goal cushion. Kelsey’s header was blocked on the line, but the rebound fell to Chloe who converted from close range.

The Buzzards hit their second shortly after the break, but within two minutes Jaye replied for the Vixens after more good work from Mikala. A defensive mix-up then saw the hosts hit their third goal of the game, before the Vixens stepped up a gear as they got their passing game together. Jaye hit her second after Kelsey and Chloe had combined well, then Kelsey scored from the left. The girls then rounded off an excellent victory in the last minute as Kelsey claimed her hat trick from Karis’s well struck corner.
