Vixens Disappoint

South Reading Vixens 0 - 7 Reading Girls
18th September 2005

Ellie - Outstanding The Vixens played host to the mighty Reading Girls for the first time, amid much concern from the players about the opposition’s Special Powers. A couple of meetings in tournaments had resulted in 4-0 defeats both times, and the girls were aware that Reading possessed talented players with several years experience.

Nevertheless, the Vixens started brightly and contained the visitors for ten minutes. Jaye had an opportunity on goal, only to see her shot go wide. But with the midfield not retreating quick enough, it was Reading who went ahead as they got behind the defence and opened the scoring with a good shot from a tight angle. This was the cue for a total collapse from the Vixens, who conceded two more in as many minutes. Keeper Ellie became extremely busy, making several key saves to keep Reading at bay for a while before they added a further two as the half drew to a close.

The girls picked up in the second half, and played much more to their potential. Chloe had a good shot charged down, Malicia went close and Jaye lobbed the keeper only to see the ball loop just over the bar. For a while it was an evenly matched game, but Reading added another two late on to complete a disappointing day for the Vixens.
