Vixens Go Close at CaliforniaCalifornia 3 - 2 South Reading Vixens23rd October 2005
The hosts had some good early possession, although were somewhat fortunate to take the lead when a goalmouth clearance rebounded off a Vixens defender and rolled into the net. Thereafter there were chances at both ends with Chloe and Kelsey going close for the visitors, whilst Ellie was outstanding in goal to deny California any further score before the break. The Vixens pushed forward from the restart and were rewarded when Charmaine got on the end of Kelsey’s cross to level the score. Jade worked hard to contain the hosts lively number 8, a tall order for any defender, whilst Felisha was constantly in the thick of the action. Karis then went close with a well struck long range shot before a good break saw California restore their lead. The Vixens fought back, and just three minutes later Jessica finished confidently after Kelsey’s strike across goal bounced back off the post. But with the clock running down, California took the points with a clinical finish from close range to maintain the pressure on league leaders Reading Girls. The girls were hugely disappointed to lose, but this time there were no complaints from the manager. Every player worked hard, and there has been a noticeable improvement in the standard of play since the season started just six weeks ago. Squad: Ellie, Jade, Karis, Charmaine, Felisha, Jessica, Kelsey, Chloe The Vixens player of the match was Felisha, who excelled in central midfield.
