Vixens Go Down But Not Out

South Reading Vixens 1 - 6 Whiteknights Jewels
24th September 2005

Dominique - brave Last season’s SCML double winners pressed forward from the start, but found the Vixens in determined form. Zoe, Stacey and Nicole were outstanding as time after time they tackled, blocked or frustrated the Jewels attack. The midfield also battled for everything and even managed some forays forward, with Deanna going close in the opening minutes. Terrific goalkeeping from Dominique, including a point blank save, meant that despite the constant Jewels pressure there was no score at half time.

Whiteknights at last made the breakthrough early in the second half to get their noses in front. Hannah then made a good run as the Vixens tried to get back into the game, but with nerves settled it wasn’t long before the visitors doubled their lead. The girls weren’t prepared to surrender though, and Yasmin pounced on a loose ball to hit her shot hard and low into the Jewels net. But as the half progressed, the strength and experience of the visitors began to show through and they added a further four without reply.

Despite the result this was an excellent performance from the Vixens. In what was undoubtedly one of the toughest games of the season they never gave up and kept going to the end.
