	South Reading Vixens Girls Football in South Reading
	SCML Cup Semi Final Wargrave Girls 1 - 0 South Reading Vixens 25th March 2006 Spring arrived at last, and there was a good turnout from the hosts supporters as the Vixens arrived at Wargrave aiming to reach the Cup Final in their first season. The league had even appointed a neutral referee to reflect the importance of the game, although we had found Wargrave’s own ref to be excellent during our league meeting a few months ago. The Vixens started brightly, and Yasmin carved out a couple of half-chances before seeing her crashing free kick deflected off the defensive wall and behind for a corner. Wargrave fought back, and Dom pulled off a string of fine saves to keep the hosts at bay.. Perri made an excellent block, and Zoe and Hannah were in the thick of the action as they broke up a number of attacks. After the break Dom continued her heroic performance in goal, making more excellent saves. The Vixens best chance of the half fell to Yasmin, but her shot rebounded off the Wargrave keeper and was cleared. So with no goals before the final whistle, the game went to extra time. Clear cut chances were few and far between and penalties seemed to be looming, but with just a minute remaining it was heartbreak for the Vixens. The ball fell to a Wargrave player on the edge of the area, and she hit an excellent strike hard and low into the Vixens net to give the hosts a last gasp winner and secure their place in the final. It was a cruel way to lose and some of the girls were in tears as the whistle blew, but they had given their best and nothing more could have been asked of them. Fortunately a few minutes in the playground restored their spirits, and their normal cheerfulness returned by the time we set off back to Whitley. After the game both teams were complimented by the referee for the attitude of players and supporters alike. We wish Wargrave good luck in the final, they are a great bunch of girls and always a pleasure to play.
