South Reading Vixens

Girls Football in South Reading

Whitegrove Sapphires 0 - 2 South Reading Vixens
26th November 2005

Shannon S - excellent School fairs and illness meant that it was a much depleted Vixens squad that travelled to Whitegrove for the second week running, with just the minimum seven girls available. But in complete contrast to their previous game, the team were punctual, warmed up properly and were totally focused on the task in hand. Dominique was particularly convinced it was going to be the Vixens day, having kissed the Lucky Eye before leaving home.

The girls had much of the early possession, and it wasn’t long before Shannon S set up Yasmin for an early shot on goal. Thereafter the Sapphires keeper was kept busy by the ever dangerous Brazilian maestro, although the Vixens certainly didn’t have it all their own way. Midway through the half Dominique was called into action, pulling off a fine save as a Whitegrove corner developed into a scramble in front of goal. But Nicole and Zoe were magnificent in defence, fully committed as they dealt with everything that came at them. The deadlock was finally broken when the Whitegrove keeper was unfortunate to handle just outside her area. From the resulting free kick Yasmin blasted an unstoppable shot into the far side of the goal to put the Vixens in front, despite the tight angle. The girls then had an early opportunity to extend their lead when they were awarded a penalty for another handball. Yasmin struck the ball well but it smacked off the crossbar and although she found the net from the rebound, no other player had touched it and the goal was correctly disallowed.

The girls started the second half in the same fashion, and Yasmin went close with a long range shot. The ever eager Kamara was desperate to extend the lead and chased a number of excellent kicks from Dom, whilst Deanna put in her usual hard working performance in central midfield. The Vixens finally made sure of the points with just three minutes remaining when Yasmin’s excellent corner was forced home from close range by Shannon S, and there was no way back for the hosts.

Well done girls, it was an excellent performance from the whole side.
