The game started well for the Vixens as they matched their illustrious opponents for the opening minutes, and Jaye managed to get in a good shot on the turn. But it was Reading who eventually took the lead when a shot from the right took an unfortunate deflection off a Vixens defender to give Ellie no chance of saving. However, the girls kept their heads up and a few minutes later won a corner on the left. Kelsey’s well taken kick found Felisha on the edge of the area, and her perfect first time shot flew hard and low into the net to level the score. This seemed to bring Reading to life, and with reinforcements joining the game midway through the half they stepped up a gear. Making good use of both wings, they hit a further three before half time despite valiant performances from defenders Ashleigh and Malicia. Yasmin, Jessica and Kelsey did their best to feed the ball through to Jaye, but with Reading closing them down quickly they just did not have the time to play their passing game effectively – although Yasmin did manage to get a shot on target as the half drew to a close. The second half started with Reading pushing forward strongly, and Ellie made a point blank save from ex-Vixen Georgia who was clean through on goal. There was nothing she could do from the resulting corner though, as the hosts extended their lead before going on to hit a further three. However, with the clock running down the Vixens seemed to find a new lease of life, creating two good chances. But the Reading goalkeeper pulled off a fantastic save to deny Jaye, and it finished 8-1 to the hosts. The girls were obviously disappointed to lose by such a margin, but for their opponents such scores are normal. The Vixens played well today, fought for everything and created a number of chances against what is undoubtedly the area’s top Under 12 side. This girls put in a much better performance than in their previous meeting, and it is games like this that will improve them as players. Squad: Ellie, Ashleigh, Malicia, Jade, Felisha, Yasmin, Jessica, Kelsey, Jaye
The Vixens player of the match was Ellie, for her skill and bravery under pressure.
