Determined defending from Stacey and Zoe kept the hosts attack at bay, and when keeper Dom did gain possession she set up several attacks with some excellent kicking. Perri, Hannah and Shannon S ran the wings, got behind the ball when possession was lost and broke forward to support the attack when it was recovered. Deanna controlled central midfield with her usual non-stop running whilst the lively Yasmin continually caused problems for the Thatcham defence. As the half progressed the Vixens began to create some excellent opportunities. Deanna set up Yasmin, but the keeper pulled off an excellent save and the ball rebounded to safety. However, just a couple of minutes later the Vixens broke through again. Yasmin ran through with Hannah in support, and lobbed the keeper to put the girls in front. With half time approaching the Vixens doubled their lead as Deanna played a great pass through to Yasmin, who this time hit her shot low into the net. Thatcham pressed forward from the restart, and for a while the Vixens were forced to defend. A couple of minutes into the half a well-worked move saw a Town striker through on goal, she struck the ball well but Dom, brave as ever, pulled off an outstanding save at point blank range. The girls started to play their way back into it, and Yasmin’s shot flew just wide. Then, midway through the half, the Vixens added a third. The ball was played across the Thatcham area and Perri was on hand to supply a cool finish as she notched up her first league goal. Town were not done yet though, and pressed forward again. They finally achieved some reward for their efforts with a well struck shot from the right which flew into the far corner of the net. There were more half-chances at both ends, but no further score as the Vixens rounded off their league campaign with their best performance of the season. Squad: Dom, Stacey, Zoe, Shannon S, Hannah, Deanna, Perri, Yasmin Scorers: Yasmin (2), Perri The Vixens player of the match was Zoe for her outstanding work in defence – a tough decision as all the girls were excellent today.
