Vixens Go West for a Point

Westwood Emeralds 2 – 2 South Reading Vixens
29th October 2005

Deanna - tireless The early exchanges were evenly matched, although Westwood brought a good diving save out of Dominique as she pushed the ball out for a corner. As the game progressed the lively Emeralds attackers started to get behind the Vixens defence and eventually took the lead with a good shot from close range. The visitors responded by pressing forward, and three minutes later won a corner on the right. Yasmin fired the ball into the danger area, where it took a wicked deflection off a Westwood defender and looped into the net to put the Vixens back on level terms. Shannon B then made a good run down the right, but with her team mates trailing some distance behind was unable to make the pass that she wanted. With half time approaching Yasmin went close, forcing a good save from the Emeralds keeper.

Westwood were fired up for the restart, and Zoe and Shannon S were kept busy in defence. A few minutes into the half Dominique made a great save, but the Emeralds followed up well to net the rebound. Again the Vixens bounced back and midway through the half Kamara was played through on goal. She hit her shot hard and low to notch up her first goal for the Vixens, and it was all square again. There was still time for Shannon B to draw yet another good save from the Westwood keeper, then with just seconds remaining Yasmin made a great run but her shot flew just wide of the post.

Nevertheless, a draw was a fair result on the day with neither team deserving to lose. The Vixens are back on the points trail, and can be confident of picking up a few more in the run-up to Christmas.
