Vixens Wey-ward Performance

Wey Valley 3 - 2 South Reading Vixens
16th October 2005

Amber - versatile The Vixens made life hard for themselves once again this week as they gifted their opponents all 3 points with a second-half collapse. Continuing their indifferent start to the season, the visitors failed to press home the advantage as they dominated for long periods in the first half.

The reigning Champions were made to pay for their inability to finish in the opening period as they suffered their second defeat of the season – this time to a strong and well organised Wey Valley side.

Despite taking a 2-1 lead at the interval courtesy of a Cloud brace (one from the penalty spot) it was never going to be enough against the hungrier home side. Outplayed for the most part, chances came and went once again at both ends before the Vixens seemed to run out of ideas up front and opened the back door invitingly to their hosts. A mistake in central defence gifted the equaliser to the incoming striker with the winner coming from an unchecked run down the right wing.

There were many below-par performances from the Vixens today but most disappointing was the lack of conviction and character from the girls which let them down in many areas.

Wey Valley were well worth their victory on the day and we would like to thank them for their great hospitality once again.

Vixen-of-the-match went to Amber Wilson who proved once again what a versatile player she is by deputising at left back and competing well under pressure. A special mention too should go to Alana McGill who volunteered her services in goal and performed well in the circumstances – her leadership skills were badly missed in the heart of the midfield today.
