Vixens in a Flap Against the EaglesSouth Reading Vixens 3 - 0 New Windsor Eagles18th September 2005
Georgia McGill once again deputised in goal as the Vixens continued to fill the void left by the injured Sophie Sawyer – get well soon! Captain Deanna Peters was flanked in the rearguard by Charlotte Bowcock and Amber Wilson whilst the previously untried quartet of Star, Femi Scott, Alana McGill and Alice Martineau took up their positions in the midfield with both Siobhan Hayes and Jade Beaumont inexplicably dropping to the bench. Cloud provided the lone target up front in her first game of the season whilst Stacy Coleman and Tanya Bird waited in the wings for their chance. The match started with the usual air of expectancy from the home crowd but the frustration soon set in as the visitors looked comfortable defending in numbers and patiently waited for the chance to counter-attack. Despite dominating for much of the opening exchange, clear-cut chances were few and far between as the usual Vixen flair seemed to be missing in this experimental line-up with Alana sitting far too deep in the heart of the midfield, inviting the Eagles to attack. The breakthrough did eventually come though with a well taken goal after some sustained pressure finally paid dividends. The slender advantage was then doubled before the break with another hard-earned strike. More surprises at the restart with Star and Alice rested this time in a far from orthodox formation as the Vixens continued to make hard work of proceedings. The only other goal of the game came from Alice after she returned to the fray, to secure all three points in a somewhat indifferent display. Perhaps a more consolidated approach to the forthcoming fixtures needs to be adopted in order to get the girls back on track, playing the kind of football we know they can produce. Two matches played, 6 points won but far from convincing on this occasion. Vixen of the match went to Star who worked hard today on both flanks to provide a number of good opportunities for her team-mates.
