26th February 2006
Wey Valley came to South Reading for their final league fixture boasting a 100% league record. But the Vixens had previously dumped the table toppers out of the cup, and were looking to make amends for their narrow league defeat last October. Sound defending from Amber, Deanna and keeper Olivia dealt with early pressure from the visitors, but Valley were awarded a penalty for handball midway through the half. Fortunately for the Vixens the opportunity was squandered as the ball was blazed high over the bar. Just three minutes later Deanna put the girls in front as she burst through the middle and fired an unstoppable shot high into the net to give the Vixens a narrow half time lead. After the break Wey’s wayward shooting continued with a number of long range efforts sailing high over the Vixens crossbar. Player of the match Amber continued to snuff out any serious attacks on the South Reading goal, and Siobhan finally wrapped things up for the Vixens as she beat a defender and the keeper to slot home from a few yards out.
