2004/05 News

02/07/05 - And Another One

The Under 11's notched up their second tournament win of the summer with victory at Maidenhead this morning. The girls cruised through their qualifying group and won their semi on penalties, before Jaye struck to secure the silverware for the Vixens in the final. Incredibly the girls were still full of energy as they celebrated in style on the monster inflatable slide...

26/06/05 - Vixens Out in Force

The ever expanding Vixens pack were out in large numbers today with eight teams entered in three different age groups at the South Chiltern Tournament at Reading University. The two U13's teams met in the semi final, with the winners going on to take the trophy. Two U11's teams were runners up in their groups, with a third team of newer players also picking up a couple of wins along the way. Our new U9's players enjoyed the day, but the best news for the Vixens was a superb performance from the other U9 team who ran up three wins with results finally starting to go their way.

11/06/05 - Vixens go Wild at Westwood

The Under 13's picked up their second tournament trophy of the summer at the Westwood Wanderers event this afternoon. It was groundhog day for the girls as once again they faced Bracknell Adders in the final. This time it was Alice who secured the cup with a superb headed goal midway through the match, for another 1-0 win. There was great support for the Vixens, with some of the Under 11's girls and parents also staying on to roar the team to victory.

29/05/05 - Party On

The Vixens attended the end of season South Reading Presentation Day in force today. The girls picked up their annual trophies from star guest Kingsley Royal, who was superb throughout despite the heat. Congratulations go to those players who won the major awards and also to Tina, who picked up the Club's Manager of the Year trophy. This was followed by an excellent disco with the girls dominating the dance floor from start to finish. Thank go to the South Reading FC committee for organising the event, and especially to Club Secretary Chris who worked tirelessly all through the day.

28/05/05 - U13's Bring Home the Bacon at Wokingham

The Under 13's were late entrants to the Wokingham tournament, but it made no difference as the girls took the trophy in their first small-sided competition of the summer. They comfortably topped their group, but had to endure a nerve wracking shootout in the semis against old foes Bracknell Vipers. With evening approaching, Chloe secured a 1-0 victory against Bracknell Adders in the final to add more silverware to the Vixens trophy room.

22/05/05 - First Trophy for Under 11's

The Under 11's Vixens took a leaf from the U13's book today, with victory in the Wey Valley Tournament. Four wins and a draw saw them comfortably top the qualifying group, and they held their nerve to win a nailbiting penalty shoot out in the final. Well worth leaving home at 6.45am for!!

30/04/05 - It's off to Wales we go

With the sun shining on the righteous, the Vixens convoy headed for three days of football and fun on the annual tour to Tenby. A full schedule of activities left the girls happy and the parents exhausted. See the report for full details.

17/04/05 - Quad!!!

Congratulations to U13's girls who won TWO cup finals today, to achieve the record breaking Quad - League and Cup winners in both the North East Hants and South Chiltern Minor Leagues. With both finals scheduled for the same day, it was an early start at Alton where the girls won a hard fought 1-0 victory over close rivals Wey Valley. This was followed by a lunchtime dash over to Aldermaston where a plucky Hungerford Town team came back from two down to take the match into extra time. But with the Vixens stepping up a gear, further goals from Amber and Alana were enough to take the trophy on a memorable day for all involved. Well done girls, it was an outstanding achievement.

03/04/05 - Champions Again

The U13's girls wrapped up the NEHYL title in style today, with an 8-3 victory over second placed Wey Valley. With 14 straight wins in the league, no team can catch them despite having two games left to play. The girls celebrated with the traditional Vixens lemonade fight before enjoying burgers and chips at the superb Wey Valley facilities. Our thanks go to Wey for their hospitality after the game.

22/03/05 - Vixens Bank on Barclays

The Vixens received a boost today with the news that they have been awarded a Barclays "Spaces for Sports" grant. As well as a range of training equipment the bank have also provided a selection of t-shirts, caps, bags and other accessories which will be distributed amongst the girls. Much appreciated, thank you Barclays!

08/03/05 - Club Goes to the Dogs

Or rather, the Vixens parents did when they went greyhound racing at Reading Stadium this evening. With food, drink and a free bet included in the entrance price, a great time was had by all. Most successful punter on the night was Janet, whose system involved selecting dogs with cute names. Those parents who chose to study the form guide before placing their bets were not quite as lucky.

26/02/05 - Champions!!

Congratulations to the U13's girls who became champions of the inaugural SCML Girls league today. Their 6-1 win over Maidenhead sees them on 60 points and gives them an unassailable lead over the chasing pack. The title was celebrated in traditional style although the girls were armed with lemonade bottles rather than champagne, which was saved for the parents.

19/02/05 - Vixens Return

The Vixens were delighted to welcome ex players Gill and Emma together with mum Judy to their U13's game at Theale. Gill played a major role in the Vixens 2003/4 treble winning side and Emma helped get the younger age groups started. Both have enjoyed a successful season with their club back home in the USA, and it was great that they found time to come and see us during their brief return to the UK. Vixens kits are ready and waiting for you, girls!

18/12/04 – It’s Christmas!

Time for the annual Christmas Lunch, and what could be more seasonal than a visit to the China Palace restaurant? Well, probably quite a lot, but that did not stop around 40 Vixens and their families from having a thoroughly enjoyable time. The Vixens were particularly impressed with the "eat as much as you want" policy, and got their money's worth several times over with multiple trips to the large and varied buffet.

31/10/04 - Vixens hit the Hundred

The Under 13’s hit their hundredth goal of the season today, as goals from Alice (3), Alana, Georgia, Siobhan and Chloe secured the 7-0 win over Winnersh Rangers. The girls have scored 105 goals in total so far, conceding just four along the way. The century has come up a full three weeks earlier than last season!

17/10/04 – Debut for Tina’s Tots

The youngest Vixens played their first ever game today as Tina’s Under 7’s took to the field against the South Reading boys team. Despite leading briefly, victory eventually went to the boys but the girls were all winners as they left the field with smiles on their faces.

13/10/04 – Vixens 13 Racism 0

Congratulations to the 13 girls who put on an excellent performance at Palmer Park Stadium as part of the celebration for Black Awareness Week and Kick Racism out of Football. The team managed to create some awareness of their own, and subsequently featured on the Meridian TV news bulletin covering the event.

11/09/04 – And They’re Off!

The new season kicked off today with the Vixens fielding four teams. The two experienced Under 13’s teams have been joined by new Under 11’s and Under 9’s squads, both playing in the South Chiltern Minor League. The rapidly expanding Vixens pack has outgrown the club’s facilities at Reading Girls School, and home games will be played at Thamesbridge College this season where we will have exclusive use of the pitches. Thanks go to Thamesbridge for all the help and assistance they have given us to make this possible. Good luck to all the girls, and enjoy your football!

20/08/04 - Double Delight

We are delighted to announce that the Thames Valley's largest independent insurance brokers Goss & Co Insurance Brokers have decided to renew their sponsorship of our Under 13's team. The girls will shortly be getting new kit - with more players joining the team, this will ensure that they are all smartly turned out next season as they defend their NEHYL league title.

And in a further boost to the Vixens, top jewellery company Hot Diamonds have teamed up with government agency Sportsmatch to sponsor our new Under 11's and Under 9's teams.

With over 40 girls now playing with the club, their support is much appreciated.
