A big well-done to all the girls who were selected to play today as each gave 100% against some very tough opposition, playing in awful weather conditions. Squad: Leanne, Jordina (c), Gaby, Georgia, Kiree, Rosie, Emily B & Yasmin. Player-of-the-tournament: Rosie - A fantastic display on her debut for the Vixens. 04/05/08 - U10's Vixens Cup Winners - Again Congratulations to the U10's Vixens as they win the East Berks Cup. Maddie struck the winning goal in the first half of the match. Great day for the U10's with more silverware to come this season? 11/03/08 – Well done, Courtney, Jenna & Shannon Congratulations to the U10’s Courtney, Jenna & Shannon, who were selected for the SCML U10’s Girls Representative Team. All three girls made there debuts on Tuesday against Reading F.C U10’s. They formed part of an efficient team that narrowly were beaten 2-1 by a very experienced side. All three girls had great games and were a huge credit to the Vixens. 25/02/08 - Well done Jodie Congratulations to the U14's Jodie, who was selected to play in the first ever South Chiltern Minor League Girls Representative Team. Jodie made the starting lineup and put in an impressive performance for 25 minutes before unfortunately picking up an injury. Nevertheless it was a great experience under the floodlights and she will have more opportunities in the team over the rest of the season. 15/12/07 - U10's Christmas Party With the Vixens winning there match in the morning, it was time for there Christmas Party. The Manager & Coaches had booked the Academy Leisure Centre for a sports party and food afterwards. With the scene set with hockey, basketball, football and bouncy castles, it was going to be fun. The girls decided to run riot in the place as they had loads of fun and games. Even got the chance to bundle there manager on the bouncy castle and jump on there coaches. It was competition time as the vixens took on the adults at hockey, it was just like watching the st trinians as every adult was hit with a stick and surprisingly the Vixens won the match. They then decided to take the adults on at football, which they won that to, as every adult was bundle by six vixens at time. Chris the manager decided to keep away from the fun and games as he noticed that he would be next? The girls eventually got there manager and all jumped on him while on the bouncy castle. Lovely little angels these U10’s. The Vixens invited Sophie and Cookie from Caversham Swans to be there guest for the afternoon. Both had loads of fun and games. With everybody worn out it was time for food. The parents had laid on great feast for the girls (as from the pictures). With bellies full it was time for Santa (Chris) to deliver presents, they all received new Wind/Waterproof tops with Vixens on the back and tube of sweets. Everybody who attended had a great time and was rewarded for a great first half of the season. Well Done girls and parents. Merry Christmas from Chris, Mick & David. Click here for pictures. 09/12/07 – U12’s & Cubs Christmas Party With this mornings match cancelled much to the disappointment of the U12 Vixens, it was down to the manager to cheer the girls up with an extra special festive Christmas meal at.......Pizza Hut!??! At least they had plenty of time to prepare as they all met up at 6pm together with a couple of the Cubs team to celebrate a great start to their first ever NEHYL campaign, sitting proudly near the top of the table and with team spirit at an all time high. It was pizza all around for the girls with an unlimited supply of fizzy drinks and ice-cream to satisfy the hungry pack as many of the parents and supporters bravely decided to stay for the spectacle too! The photos below tell a story as each of the players enjoyed the superb hospitality of the very patient staff at the Madjeski branch with only two spilled drinks to report! The cubs representatives took first place in the 'who can eat the most ice cream' competition, Sasha and Tapria consuming approximately their own body weight whilst the older Vixens edged it in the coca-cola challenge. Despite having been pre-warned of our large entourage, the staff at Pizza Hut were a little concerned as to whether they had enough pizza left to feed the hungry extended family of Jordina, Chloe, Vanessa, Emily, Natalie, Mayfair, Georgia, Laura, Gabby, Sasha and not least the ravenous Tapria! The parents and supporters were not to be outdone however as manager Tina wolfed her way through probably the hottest pizza on the planet whilst elsewhere potato wedges, garlic bread and chicken wings were disappearing fast from the tables. Coach Carl being ever-competitive romped home in the final competition of the evening, demolishing two giant desserts in the form of a chocolate fudge cake and raspberry cheesecake with no problem whatsoever. Tina then donned her Santa hat and disappeared mysteriously for a few moments before returning laden with a heavy red sack to the excitement of the young Vixens before distributing gifts and chocolate stockings to each of the hard working players. She even managed to totally embarrass Sam as she presented a bouquet of flowers as a small token of her appreciation for collecting in the subs each week - thank you Sam. A good time was had by all and special thanks go to Pizza Hut staff as well as all the players, parents and supporters who were on their (almost) best behaviour throughout - rewarded by a balloon each from the staff on departure! One last thank you from manager Tina and coaches Jason and Carl to all the parents who have been superb so far this testing season, supporting the girls without reserve and assisting with transport to the away games when required. Merry Christmas!
It was Trophy Time for the Vixens at the Whiteknights tournament, with the two Under 9's teams both reaching their finals. One secured runners up in the main event, whilst the other won the Plate after a nailbiting penalty shootout. The Under 13's also reached the final of the Plate, winning two penalty shootouts along the way, before losing out narrowly in the final. Well done to everyone who picked up trophies today.
Congratulations to the Under 15's on winning the Surrey County Girls League at the first time of asking. Against some tough competition, the girls secured the title with three games still to play. Over the years, this age group has won four different leagues - surely a unique feat in junior football!
There were mixed fortunes for the two Vixens teams that had made it through to the semi finals of their cup competitions. The Under 11's were extremely unfortunate to go out to Theale Tigers 2-1 in extra time, after having had to make enforced changes to the team at the last minute. There were no such problems for the Under 9's though, as the in-form mini Vixens cruised to a convincing 5-0 win over a strong Caversham side. Good luck in the final, girls.
A £275 donation has been given to the U15 as a player sponsorship for Denmark. The person wishes to remain anonymous but is someone who is close to the club. Debra said "the donation came out of the blue and we are extremely grateful for this very kind gesture". Fund raising for the trip is well underway following our efforts last weekend. On Saturday Vixens mums Debra, Julia and Susan put on a stall at Woodley Pagoda and the girls and parents bag packed on Sunday at Asda in Lower Earley. Both events raised a staggering £1332.84. Further dates have been booked in April and May to further increase the pot. Any other teams who would like to join us in bag packing to raise money for their squad are very welcome and Debra will provide details.
Following the open invitation displayed on the site, the Denmark squad is now complete at fourteen strong. This, after the addition of Fulham academy player Louise Delaney. Louise also plays for Wey Valley in the SCGL.
They have also obtained a spot for a notice board to be erected in the next two weeks within the stadium reception.
Fund raising for the Danish tour in July is well under way. Over 25 parents and players are attending so far. If anybody else wants to come on this trip please contact Debra on 01189 629933. Deposits of £100 are required by February 28th. The total cost is £275 including flights, 3 star hotel B&B and full tournament entertainment package. We are reducing the cost by fund raising, Debra can provide full details.
The newly formed Vixens Ladies took up where their younger counterparts left off this evening with what can only be described as the mother of all Christmas Meals! It was off to The World Turned Upside Down carvery once again for a gourmet seasonal feast washed down with several drinks before heading off into Reading Town Centre to dance the night away for those brave few still willing and able to stand. Player/Manager Tina was once again on hand to organise the vast expanse of tables and assemble the Vixen entourage which included some brave husbands and boyfriends to help celebrate an excellent start to their debut season for both teams. The majority opted for the tomato soup starter whilst the more adventurous went for the melon as the waitress delivered the drinks to the table. Then the fun really started as the queue for the main course carvery almost extended half way around the pub as the poor chef Ray didn't know what hit him. Plate after plate of turkey, gammon, beef and seasonal vegetables topped with Yorkshire puddings & gravy appeared over the horizon as the Vixen conveyor-belt wound its way back to the tables. Although unable to quite match the number of Yorkshire puddings consumed the previous week by the mini-Vixens, Stacey set a new record for number of stuffing-balls demolished in a single sitting. Many of the younger players managed a return trip for seconds as the glasses began to empty around the room. Karen made good on her promise of a bottle of wine for the table which then proceeded to be polished off at warp speed. The dessert course proved a bridge too far for some as they struggled to find any more room but in true Vixen spirit a final concerted effort saw most of the plates emptied of Black Forest Gateau, Christmas Pudding and Ice Cream. By 10:00 everyone was rolling out of the restaurant about 6lb heavier & probably a little worse for wear as the hardcore Vixen element headed for the town centre. Here the reporter bows out, a good coach knows when he is beaten and opts for damage limitation. But our roving reporter Tina now has all the gossip on the select few that made the onward journey albeit goes a little hazy after about midnight.......... 12:00 - 02:00 censored. ......a call at 02:00 am from an inebriated manager for a lift home meant a journey through the still lively inner sanctum of Reading with scenes reminiscent of Shaun of the Dead.
A great evening for all concerned and hopefully the first of many more to come!
02/12/06 - Mini Vixens Christmas Meal The younger Vixens from both the Cubs Soccer School and the U9's Turned the World Upside Down this afternoon as they paid a visit to the local carvery bearing a similar name. The fantastic staff were tested to the limit with a combined headcount of 20 to cater for as the youngsters kicked-off their Christmas festivities in warm comfortable surroundings after many had spent the morning grinding-out a 4-0 victory over local rivals Thatcham Town Girls (see match report). With Tina donning her Santa hat, organising the tables and negotiating a special Christmas 3-course meal deal for the hungry Vixen pack it was left to coach Jason and a handful of brave parents to entertain the kids with some seasonal pre-luncheon banter. But it wasn't long before each of the kids had a drink in front of them, soon followed by a generous portion of melon for starters topped with berries & fruity sauce. After convincing some of the more wary kids that melon was the fruit of top footballers, most of the plates were emptied with gusto before the queue began to form for the main self-serve course including turkey, stuffing, Yorkshire puddings and seasonal vegetables. Gravy.....Oooh Vixens love gravy. The record for most Yorkshire puddings consumed went to Jenna with a count of 6 whilst Ashlee followed close behind on 5! Many of the kids were soon up for seconds as the adults struggled to keep up with the healthy young appetites. As if that wasn't enough, there was Black Forest Gateau and Christmas Pudding on offer to crown a wonderful meal which left the kids rubbing their full tummies and just about finding time for one more blast of their party horns before departing. Our special thanks go to Verity who was our very patient waitress for the afternoon.
Watch this space for the SRV Ladies Christmas meal & night on the town 15/012/06.....where's the aspirin?
15/08/06 - Ladies night out
After several weeks of intensive training, the newly formed Ladies team enjoyed their first social event - a trip to the greyhounds. A great evening was had by all, with Toni particularly energetic. The bookies came off best this time, but a lively squad will no doubt be back for revenge in due course.
