Tenby Tour29th - 31st May 2004It was seven o'clock, and an excited group of girls were ready to face the long drive down the M4 to Tenby. "We'll be there at 10.30" said Jason, and after a brief stop at the services we rolled into Tenby Leisure Centre car park at ...exactly 10.30. Jason had arranged friendly matches with local girls Pembrokeshire County, and Crickhowell Panthers who had also made a long journey to south west Wales. The Welsh teams played first, with the Pembrokeshire girls earning a hard fought victory. Then it was the Vixens turn, running up a 2-0 win over Pembrokeshire followed by a 1-1 draw with the Panthers. See the match reports for full details!. With the football over, the Vixens and Panthers headed for the beach and a late lunch. As the parents took advantage of the sun, the girls spent the afternoon cooling off in the sea. After ice creams, we then headed up the road to Manorbier Youth Hostel. There was still time for the girls to enjoy a game of cricket whilst Tina prepared her famous Spaghetti Bolognese, before exhausted parents and lively girls eventually turned in for the night. The next day was bright and sunny, and after an informal kickabout it was off to Oakwood Pleasure Park for the day. Lots of rides and minimal queues made for a great time. Bravery awards went to those who rode Vertigo whilst the rest of the Vixens roared encouragement from the safety of the ground. On the way back there was a chance to visit the medieval walled town centre of Tenby, with the pound shops being a particular hit with the girls. After returning to the hostel, there was still time for the hardier ones to walk down the cliffs for an evening dip in the sea. Our last day dawned, and it was off to Manorbier Castle for the girls to explore the towers and ramparts for an hour. As the rain clouds started to gather, we made for Heatherton Country Park. The ensuing downpour did not stop the Vixens enjoying the go-karts, archery, pistol and rifle shooting and all the other attractions on offer, and it was with great reluctance that they were prised away for the long, wet journey home.
